From the Northern Crew:

Hello from the Susquehannock Deer Crew,

With a little bit of help from the snow, this week has been the crew’s most productive for deer trapping. This week we caught 15 deer bringing our total deer processed to 34. Because of the size of the deer captured, the crew was able to deploy 5 collars.

With all these captures, we haven’t had much time for other things. [That’s quite alright. Given the weather, crews need to make hay (i.e. catch deer!) while the sun shines.]

From the Southern Crew:

 Hello all!

What an interesting season [translation = TOUGH]. Still very limited snow and our deer are being extremely picky about going in traps. But we finally got a buck collar out in Bald Eagle and a few more deer tagged and processed! We’ve started baiting for rocket nets in the hopes of better luck with a different strategy and we’re optimistic for what may lay ahead.

With buds beginning to emerge in our study area, trapping will become increasingly difficult. But we’ve noticed a few more creatures moving around including a northern saw-whet owl and a porcupine! We’re hopeful for the rocket net trapping and perhaps a few inches of snow to help get a few more deer into the traps before our season ends.
